Season seven of The Walking Dead has been for me one of deep emotions and trauma, and in my mind at an unprecedented level ... We all suffer from the need for extensive therapy and oh, yeah, closure.

It's discomfiting to see Walking Dead double down on misery when there's already been so much of it. Game of Thrones employs its fair share of violence and grief, but at least it takes breaks to ride dragons now and again.

It can be dull, or miserable, but not both -- and definitely not for this long.

New Best Friends won't be on anyone's all-time favourite list, but it's engaging nonetheless.

The Walking Dead is at impasse itself right now, and it's doubtful that the series will be able to sustain itself before it's either outright eaten or blown to kingdom come.

It used to be a great show that used violence as a way to advance compelling storylines. Now it's just violent, sadistic and repulsive.

As long as he doesn't become as verbose as Negan, the show will continue to be gripping, grim and, yes, shockingly violent. All of that is acceptable if you've come this far with the story. It's the long-windedness that's the most worrying of all.

It was TWD's way of saying that seven seasons in, it's still got a lotta killin' to do, so hang in there.
