Not quite a Capra-esque redemption fable, not quite a satirical lampoon and rarely the vehicle to capitalize on Nolte's many strengths, the show about the toll of the presidency made very little impact on me.

The political comedy, starring Nick Nolte and Sela Ward, is both genuinely funny and genuinely moving, displaying a kind of rigor in its storytelling that is frequently lost on networks new to original programming.

You probably need to be left-leaning or at least politically neutral to enjoy the new Epix comedy Graves, which begins Sunday, though really everybody should savor Nick Nolte's performance in it. The guy was born to be a growly old man.
