Gettysburg
Description
A realistic look at the historical events of that American incident and the civil war that lasted four hours and 1/4 hours. A deep account of the thousands of civil war re-enactments that took place at a time in which the federal army and the Army of Northern Virginia fought. Through a series of scenes, the Pickett's cartoons will be highlighted in that three-day battle, as well as the letters of command officers and personal plans developed for combat operations.

It's a movie that parades authenticity, but never settles on its own point of view.

While sincerity obviously can't guarantee quality, it's still a refreshing step up from the blatant commercialism of most West Coast media projects.

Mr. Daniels's luminous performance as the heroic colonel dominates ... half of the film. And when the actor all but disappears in Part 2, he is sorely missed.

The result is not without interest, but the sheer length is a ridiculous indulgence.

Wins the day by giving a detailed account of the three-day battle (for the first time in a feature film), shot on the actual locations where the events took place. [Blu-ray]
