SPOILER.
My take of the film, "A Trip to Infinity."
Wow!, but in a boring way. How finite is the thinking in this movie? Infinitely finite. I know, many will be enamored by this film. Yes, it does entice some to think beyond the cheeseburger in front of them, but the conclusions in this docufilm are finitely small. Towards the end, the mathematicians and physicists come to the conclusion that life will end. My statement, Define Life. Pray tell, what finite definition based on which finite concepts defines life? The paradoxes in this film contradict its premise. Infinity is infinite, which includes all things and beings, finite. So, how does life end when what we declare is finite, is included in infinity. There is no finite. Only in the "finite" boxes of our minds, which we create through our attempt at control, do we comfortably confine infinity through our belief that infinity can be defined and understood. One cannot understand when one limits through finite definitions. It is only in our "Dance" with the chaos of infinity that we will infinitely experience infinity. Math, is but a sad attempt to find comfort through our attempt to control. How boring. Infinity is about beingness, livingness, not chasing our tails to feel some since of comfort. Infinity exists in our merely being, not in calculating. In our doingness, we miss the reason of infinity. But, hey, I guess for some, mere infinitesimal fractions of time chasing mysteries is a game worth living.
I know I am being tough on this film, but, please. Labels and titles have no more meaning than do finite concepts trying to define infinity. This is why math is so boorishly small, for it is merely an attempt at control in the reach of something comforting. ~ Mark
